Traces of toxin found in more Nestlé baby formula samples in Hong Kong

Hong Kong's Centre for Food Safety announced that, in follow-up investigations of previously recalled batches, five out of 22 samples tested positive for cereulide, a toxin produced by Bacillus cereus. The toxin levels ranged from 0.2 to 1.3 micrograms per kilogram of food. The affected products include Nan INFINIPRO2 7HMO, Nan PRO 1 2HMO, and Illuma LUXA 1.

Hong Kong's Centre for Food Safety announced on Monday night that during its ongoing follow-up investigations into previously recalled batches of Nestlé baby milk formula, five out of 22 samples tested positive for cereulide, a toxin produced by the Bacillus cereus bacterium.

The toxin levels ranged from 0.2 to 1.3 micrograms per kilogram of food. The positive samples were from Nan INFINIPRO2 7HMO (800g, batch 53070742F1), Nan PRO 1 2HMO (800g, batch 51670742F2), and Illuma LUXA 1 (800g, batch 51190017C2).

Nestlé had stated that the recall was a precautionary measure after discovering that an ingredient from a supplier used in the affected batches could contain a heat-stable toxin derived from Bacillus cereus. The issue links to food complaints in European countries, but Hong Kong authorities stress that investigations continue to protect public safety.
