Valnet har introducerat nya kontrakt för skribenter och redaktörer på TheGamer som kopplar all ersättning till antalet sidvisningar för en artikel. Förändringarna trädde i kraft den 22 maj efter att personalen informerats den 21 maj. Skribenter och redaktörer riskerar nu att bli helt utan ersättning om deras arbete inte når upp till en miniminivå av visningar.

Enligt den nya strukturen tjänar skribenter fem dollar per tusen sessioner, medan redaktörer erhåller tre dollar per tusen sessioner. Ersättningen gäller endast för de första femton dagarna efter publicering. Personal med frilanskontrakt utgör nästan hela teamet på sajten.
