Bandai Namco releases Code Vein II trailer and demo details

Bandai Namco Entertainment has unveiled a new walkthrough trailer for Code Vein II, showcasing gameplay and story elements set 100 years in the past. The company also announced a character creator demo launching soon, allowing players to customize their Revenant Hunter ahead of the full game release. However, reports differ on the exact dates for both the demo and launch.

On January 5, 2026, Bandai Namco Entertainment released an eight-minute walkthrough trailer for Code Vein II, an upcoming action RPG. The trailer transports players 100 years into the past, where the Revenant Hunter protagonist teams up with Josée Anjou on a mission to save the Sunken City and reveal the crisis's origins. Josée, haunted by guilt, carries a heavy burden amid epic battles. Key locations include the Sunken Pylon, a vast dungeon central to purifying the city.

Combat highlights feature seven distinct weapon types, from agile dual blades for deadly combos to the powerful halberd making its series debut. The trailer introduces the Restorative Offering mechanic, where partners revive the fallen Revenant Hunter using recovered health, though a cooldown leaves them temporarily out of action. Additionally, new Forma skills fall into weapons, defensive, and bequeathed categories, powered by the Icor resource gained from attacks. Players can unleash devastating blows once enough Icor accumulates. The game also allows switching between summoning partners to fight alongside or assimilating them to boost personal health and stats.

A character creator demo is set to launch shortly before the full game, offering 64 save slots that transfer directly to the final version. Players can customize the Revenant Hunter's body type, hairstyle, facial expressions, accessories, makeup, and more. Features include viewing characters at the MagMell Institute's hot spring under varied lighting and using Photo Mode to capture creations.

Code Vein II's narrative binds players and characters through blood, fate, and destiny in a post-apocalyptic world on the brink of collapse. Settings span the flooded Sunken City ruins, Undead Forest, isolated MagMell Island, and beyond. Gameplay involves draining enemy blood to unlock skills, strategizing with Blood codes, and using Jails—unique weapons and equipment—to tackle foes and bosses.

Platforms are PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Sources conflict on dates: one reports the demo on January 22 and launch on January 29, while another states January 23 and January 30, respectively.

In a preview, Kai Tatsumoto noted on defensive tech: "It all comes down to the defensive forma that players equip and set to the L1 button. One allows for blocking, another allows for timed parries. They’re each situational, but with enemy attacks being well telegraphed, the parry forma should be the perfect fit for Soulslike veterans." On combat skills: "Players can set a palette of four different weapon skills between active attacks and passive temporary boosts, each with their own resource cost. Attacking and using a special drain attack both recharge this resource, allowing players to pull off vicious combos if they’ve accumulated enough stocked resources."

Developers at Capcom have showcased Resident Evil Requiem, the ninth mainline entry in the survival horror series, emphasizing a blend of classic and action-oriented gameplay through protagonists Leon Kennedy and Grace Ashcroft. Director Koshi Nakanishi addressed fan concerns by comparing the game's multi-protagonist approach to sushi, assuring it avoids the pitfalls of Resident Evil 6. Hands-on sessions highlight a pendulum of tension and release in a zombie-infested hospital setting.

A Soulslike purist who overlooked the original Code Vein has found its sequel unexpectedly engaging after several hours of play. The game introduces a new post-apocalyptic world and anime-inspired elements that set it apart from traditional entries in the genre. Despite initial sluggishness, its combat system offers rewarding depth and flexibility.
