Elburgon Secondary School in Nakuru County has been shut indefinitely following a fire that destroyed one boys' dormitory on Tuesday afternoon. No injuries or deaths were reported. The cause remains unknown as investigations begin.
The fire broke out on July 21 while students were attending classes. Videos showed thick smoke rising as the blaze consumed the building. Students attempted to recover belongings but saved only a few items.
Police and emergency teams responded quickly. They contained the fire and confirmed all students were accounted for with no casualties. The school management decided on indefinite closure to support investigations and damage assessment.
This marks another incident in recent weeks involving dormitory fires at Kenyan boarding schools. Officials plan to review safety measures at such facilities.
