EPRA inasonga mbele ushirikiano wa kikanda kupunguza gharama za umeme

Mamlaka ya Kudhibiti Nishati na Petroli (EPRA) imetoa wito wa ushirikiano zaidi wa kikanda kati ya nchi za Afrika ili kupunguza gharama za umeme na kuimarisha usalama wa nishati. Acting Mkurugenzi Mkuu Joseph Oketch alizungumza katika Mkutano wa 7 wa Utafiti na Uvumbuzi wa EPRA 2026 huko Nairobi Aprili 21. Amesisitiza kuwa changamoto za nishati ni fursa ya kushirikiana.

Katika mkutano uliofanyika Nairobi, Oketch alisema, “Changamoto tunazokabiliana nazo sasa ni fursa nzuri ya kushirikiana katika sekta na eneo ili kushughulikia pamoja udhaifu katika minyororo ya usambazaji wa nishati huku tukijenga mifumo inayoweza kubadilika, iliyounganishwa, na inayoongoza na utafiti wa kuaminika.”

Aliongeza kuwa nishati barani Afrika inapaswa kuwa na mifumo thabiti ya kikanda inayoweza kustahimili usumbufu wa usambazaji, mabadiliko ya bei na mahitaji yanayobadilika. “Nasisitiza kuwa ushirikiano ndio msingi wa maendeleo. Changamoto tunazokabiliana nazo haziwezi kushughulikiwa peke yake,” alisema Oketch.

EPRA inasema inahitaji miundo sawa ya udhibiti, upatikanaji wa sera za nishati na miundo ya soko iliyoratibiwa. Pia inasonga mbele kanuni za bei sawa na motisha za sera ili kupunguza gharama za umeme.

Nchi za Afrika Mashariki zinaendelea na soko la umeme lililounganishwa kabisa, ambalo litaruhusu biashara ya umeme kwa bei zinazoshindana. EPRA ilitaja Mpango wa M300 unaolenga kuunganisha watu milioni 300 katika Afrika Kusini-mwa Jangwa na umeme kama mfano wa ushirikiano wa kikanda.

Mkutano wa wiki moja uliokuwa na wazo la 'Kukuza Uwezo wa Kumudu Nishati na Usalama katika Maendeleo Endelevu' ulikusanya wataalamu sera, watafiti na maafisa wa viwanda kutoka bara.
