EPRA inaonya na kukata miti karibu na mistari ya umeme

Mamlaka ya Udhibiti wa Nishati na Petroli (EPRA) imetoa onyo dhidi ya kukata miti karibu na mistari ya umeme kutokana na hatari za usalama. Ongezeko la uharibifu wa miundombinu ya nishati limechochea onyo hili. EPRA inashauri kuwasiliana na Kenya Power kwa ajili ya uchukuzi salama.

EPRA ilitoa onyo rasmi kupitia majukwaa yake ya mitandao ya kijamii tarehe 5 Mei 2026. "Avoid cutting trees near power lines; this could result in electrocution, outages & damage," ilisema EPRA. Hatari hizo ni pamoja na kushikwa na umeme, makosa ya umeme na uharibifu wa miundombinu.

Mamlaka hiyo imeeleza hatua za kukataa mti karibu na mistari ya umeme. Wananchi wasiliane na ofisi za karibu za Kenya Power au wapige simu *977# au 0709 336 000. Timu ya wataalamu itatembelea tovuti, kutathmini hatari na kutumia mbinu maalum kama kukata kimwelekeo.

Kisheria, koridoa ya mita tano pembeni kwa pembeni ya mistari ya umeme lazima ibaki wazi, sheria ambayo Kenya Power inaitimiza. Sheria ya Nishati 2019 inafafanua "act of vandalism" kama kitendo cha kimakusudi, uzembe au uovu kinacholenga kuharibu vifaa vya nishati.

Adhabu ni faini ya angalau Ksh5 milioni, kifungo cha miaka 10 au vyote pamoja. Kwa makosa makubwa ya uchukuzi wa kiuchumi, faini inaweza kufikia Ksh1 bilioni au kifungo cha miaka 15.
