Formula 1 stakeholders have agreed in principle to rebalance power unit output starting next year. The changes aim to address concerns with the current hybrid systems introduced in 2026. Officials are also eyeing a longer-term shift toward simpler engines.
The FIA, teams, power unit makers and Formula 1 management have settled on boosting the V6 engine output by 50 kW to 450 kW while cutting electric motor deployment by the same amount to 300 kW. The adjustment will come through higher fuel flow limits and should keep battery charge levels higher during laps while reducing speed differences when super clipping occurs. Discussions continue on raising the electric motor's harvesting limit above 350 kW and increasing battery capacity from 4 MJ to 5 MJ.
