Kauli hiyo ilikuwa majibu ya hotuba za Ruto za hivi karibuni zinazowashambulia wakosoaji wao kuhusu maadili, mwonekano na faragha. Gachagua pia alidai ufisadi katika mradi wa Railway City. Alisema kampuni ya China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), iliyotoa zabuni ya chini zaidi, haikupewa kandarasi kwa kukataa kutoa hongo ya Sh7 bilioni. Badala yake, China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) ilipata kandarasi kwa Sh30 bilioni, ikiongeza gharama kwa mabilioni ya pesa za walipa kodi. “Tungependa kuarifu Ubali wa Uingereza jijini Nairobi kwamba wanapaswa kufuta mradi huo na zabuni ya ujenzi wa Railway City,” alisema. Alidai kampuni zingine za China zimekataliwa kwa kukataa hongo, na Ruto ameuru CRBC pekee ipate kandarasi. Pia alimkosoa Ruto kwa kauli zake, akisema, “Sisi hatuna shida na masikio yako, tunataka yawe makubwa zaidi ili uweze kusikiliza wananchi.” Alitaja changamoto kama deni la taifa, afya na miundombinu duni.
