Kenya inaomba mkopo wa dharura kutoka Benki ya Dunia kupunguza athari za vita vya Mashariki ya Kati

Benki Kuu ya Kenya imethibitisha kuwa serikali imeomba msaada wa kifedha wa haraka kutoka Benki ya Dunia ili kuzuia ongezeko la bei ya mafuta lililosababishwa na vita vinavyoendelea Iran. Gavana Kamau Thugge alifanya taarifa hiyo katika mikutano ya IMF na Benki ya Dunia nchini Marekani. Mkopo huo unatarajiwa kusaidia kusawazisha usambazaji wa mafuta na kuzuia ongezeko la bei za pampu.

Gavana wa Benki Kuu, Kamau Thugge, alisema kuwa serikali imeomba "msaada mkubwa" wa haraka chini ya mifumo ya Benki ya Dunia ya kukabiliana na dharura. Alifanya taarifa hiyo wakati wa mikutano ya IMF-Benki ya Dunia nchini Marekani. Thugge hakufichua kiasi cha fedha, lakini alisema utasaidia kuzuia ongezeko la bei za mafuta.

Kenya inategemea sana mafuta yaliyoagizwa nje, na vita vya Iran vimevuruga usambazaji wa mafuta ulimwenguni, na kusababisha ongezeko la gharama za kuagiza. Utawala wa Rais William Ruto unajitahidi kupata akiba ya kutosha ya mafuta huku wakilinda watumiaji na biashara dhidi ya ongezeko la bei.

Mkopo huo utaungana na programu tofauti ya msaada wa bajeti inayojadiliwa tangu mwaka jana, kabla ya kuongezeka kwa vita vya Mashariki ya Kati kati ya Marekani na Iran.

Siku moja kabla, Rais Ruto aliwahakikishia Wanakenya katika mkutano Kisii tarehe 15 Aprili kwamba serikali imechukua hatua za kutosha. "Nataka kuwambia Wanakenya kuwa ingawa kuna vita Mashariki ya Kati ambavyo vimesababisha bei za mafuta kuongezeka ulimwenguni na katika eneo letu, kwa mpango wa G-to-G, tumeweza kusawazisha usambazaji na kupunguza bei," alisema.
