Final Fantasy 7 Revelation director unveils new FITS system

Naoki Hamaguchi, director of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, shared details on the upcoming Revelation in a recent interview. He explained how the team aims to build on Rebirth while introducing fresh elements to maintain player engagement.

Hamaguchi described the hybrid combat in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth as reaching a perfected state. To prevent it from feeling stale in Revelation, the team introduced the FITS system, which stands for Function Integrated Tactical Suitwear.

Each character gains four outfits that grant access to jobs from earlier Final Fantasy titles. Examples shown include Cloud as a Warrior and Tifa as a Dark Mage. The change gives players greater freedom to select roles and party compositions instead of being guided toward fixed character strengths.

The game also expands open-world navigation through the Highwind airship. Players can parachute from it to any location, with visual markers aiding initial guidance before players rely on memory for landing. Hamaguchi stressed the need for clear direction in large worlds to avoid player confusion.

These features reflect input from the development team and draw on the staff's long familiarity with the original 1997 game.
