Behaviour Interactive, the studio behind Dead by Daylight, has purchased the open-world horror survival game 7 Days to Die for an undisclosed sum. The Fun Pimps, the game's original developers, announced the deal and stated they will continue leading development with added support from Behaviour. The game, which began development in 2012, has sold more than 20 million copies.

The acquisition expands Behaviour Interactive's horror portfolio, following its purchase of Darkest Dungeon developer Red Hook Studios in autumn 2024. Fun Pimps shared the news in a Steam blog post, reflecting on the game's origins. '7 Days to Die started back in Thanksgiving 2012, when two brothers cooked up a game idea at the dinner table,' the post reads. '13 years later, that idea has grown into something far bigger than we ever imagined, with over 20 million copies sold and a community that's been with us every step of the way.' Co-founder Richard Huenik elaborated in a video, saying, '7 Days has come far but it's still not where we want it to be, and there are still so many amazing things we still want to add to the game. But a dream this big cannot be achieved alone.' Fun Pimps emphasized continuity, noting that 'nothing about the heart of the game is changing. Our vision stays the same, our team stays the same, and our focus remains on the community.' The partnership will allow expansion of art, engineering, design, community, and support teams to pursue ambitious ideas. Behaviour was selected for its shared passion for horror, community engagement, and modding support. 7 Days to Die entered alpha in 2014 alongside peers like Project Zomboid, DayZ, and Rust, achieving a 'very positive' Steam rating after its full 2024 launch.
