A team from Sanzaru Games pitched a remaster of Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy to Sony in 2019, but the proposal was rejected. Former Sanzaru animator Travis Howe shared a sample scene from the pitch on LinkedIn, showing an updated version of a key moment. The reveal has sparked interest among fans of the classic PlayStation 2 platformer.
In 2019, developers at Sanzaru Games assembled a pitch for a remaster—or remake—of Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, the first game in the series originally released by Naughty Dog for PlayStation 2. Travis Howe, who worked as an animator at Sanzaru from 2018 to 2026, created a shot-for-shot animation of a scene featuring Daxter freaking out to demonstrate the updated look. Howe posted the clip on LinkedIn, stating: “A while back, a team was assembled to pitch a remaster of Jak & Daxter. I was asked to animate an IGC shot-for-shot, to show what this updated version would look like.” The pitch was not commissioned by Sony but presented to seek approval, similar to Sanzaru's earlier successful pitch for Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time in 2013. Sony declined to greenlight the project. The Jak and Daxter series has not seen a new main entry since Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier in 2009, developed by High Impact Games for PS2 and PSP after Naughty Dog shifted focus. Naughty Dog considered reviving the series during the PS3 era but prioritized The Last of Us. Sanzaru, known for the pitch, was acquired by Meta in 2020 and pivoted to VR development before shutting down in January 2026. Howe's post, shared widely on social media including by the account @eco_mmunity on March 25, highlights ongoing fan interest in revisiting PS2 classics.
