The Leverkusen-based company Bayer has scored an important legal success in its dispute with glyphosate plaintiffs in the US. The planned settlement worth 7.25 billion dollars remains with a court in Missouri.
Individual plaintiff law firms had failed in their attempt to move the proceedings to California. A federal judge based there had already rejected an earlier settlement attempt by Bayer five years ago.
The settlement proceedings announced in February with a volume of 7.25 billion dollars had already received preliminary approval from the court in Missouri in the spring. This removes one legal hurdle for the company.
However, more than 100 objections and counter-applications against the settlement have now been filed, according to sources in US legal circles.
