Einzelne Klägerkanzleien waren mit dem Versuch gescheitert, das Verfahren nach Kalifornien zu verlagern. Ein dort ansässiger Bundesrichter hatte vor fünf Jahren bereits einen früheren Einigungsversuch von Bayer verworfen.

Das im Februar angekündigte Vergleichsverfahren mit einem Volumen von 7,25 Milliarden Dollar war bereits im Frühjahr vom Gericht in Missouri vorläufig genehmigt worden. Damit entfällt eine juristische Hürde für das Unternehmen.

Allerdings liegen mittlerweile mehr als 100 Einwände und Gegenanträge gegen den Vergleich vor, wie es aus US-Rechtskreisen heißt.
