Developers discuss turn-based survival horror game vultures

Team Vultures has created Vultures - Scavengers of Death, a turn-based tactical survival horror game inspired by Resident Evil 2. In a recent interview, developers Mateo Robayo Rodríguez and Giovanni Beltran shared how the project originated from imagining a tabletop version of the Resident Evil series. A demo of the game was featured during Steam Next Fest.

The survival horror genre has seen renewed interest in recent years, with games emphasizing action and tension, such as Resident Evil Requiem. However, fans have long speculated about a turn-based RPG adaptation of Resident Evil, an idea unlikely to come from the official series. Team Vultures, comprising Mateo Robayo Rodríguez and Giovanni Beltran, is addressing this gap with Vultures - Scavengers of Death.

The game draws heavy inspiration from classics like Resident Evil 2, aiming to blend tactical turn-based mechanics with horror elements. As Rodríguez and Beltran explained in an interview, the concept evolved from a simple question: "We began asking ourselves how a tabletop version of Resident Evil might feel."

During Steam Next Fest, a demo allowed players to experience this unique approach. The developers discussed the challenges of crafting fear in a turn-based format, where traditional real-time tension is absent. They also touched on the resurgence of survival horror and the roundabout path that led to the game's development.

Vultures - Scavengers of Death seeks to offer a fresh perspective on the genre, focusing on strategic decision-making amid horror scenarios. While official Resident Evil titles continue to prioritize action, this indie project explores the untapped potential of a more deliberate, tabletop-like experience.
