KTM unveils street-legal 2027 Freeride E motorcycle

KTM has introduced the 2027 Freeride E, its first street-legal version of the electric off-road motorcycle. The Mattighofen, Austria-based company made the model available for trails without needing transport. It features upgraded power and battery for extended enduro riding.

The Freeride series, which has been on the market for about a decade, now includes street-legal capabilities in its latest iteration. KTM equipped the 2027 model with a 5.5 kWh swappable MX50 Lithium-ion battery that supports 2 to 3 hours of enduro-style riding and withstands over 1,000 charging cycles before reaching 80 percent capacity. The bike weighs 112 kg and uses a chrome-molybdenum steel frame, WP XACT and XPLOR suspension, Braketec brakes, and Michelin Enduro Medium tires on 21-inch and 18-inch aluminum wheels. KTM boosted the water- and dustproof motor to 19.2 kW peak power from 8.3 kW nominal, with 27 lb-ft of torque and a top speed of about 60 mph. Riders can select from three ride modes and three energy recovery settings. Safety features include a rollover sensor and adjustable traction control, alongside a refreshed colorway. Charging takes 8 hours with a 660 W unit or 1.5 hours with a 3.3 kW charger. The motorcycle will reach dealers starting in April, though pricing remains undisclosed.
