Aragón abstains in energy funds vote demanding inclusion of private schools

The Aragón government broke unanimity in the Sectoral Energy Conference by abstaining from the distribution of 368 million euros to air-condition public centers.

Minister Sara Aagesen confirmed that Aragón was the only region that did not support the measure during Tuesday's telematic meeting. The regional government demanded that the funds also reach private subsidized schools, which the Ministry rejected as public money meant for public education.

Aragón will receive 14.3 million euros for public hospitals and educational centers under the PREE Sanitario and PREE Docente programs. Jorge Azcón's government defended its abstention arguing that excluding subsidized schools discriminates against part of the student body.

The Aragón PSOE criticized the decision as favoritism toward private interests. The Federation of Parents' Associations of Aragón called it irresponsible and unjustifiable.
