Indian Statistical Institute ernennt nach acht Monaten neuen Direktor

Das Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) hat den renommierten Mathematiker Amartya Kumar Dutta mit Wirkung zum 1. April zu seinem neuen Direktor auf volle Amtszeit ernannt. Die Ernennung erfolgt nach einer achtmonatigen Vakanz der Position. Der Ratsvorsitzende Kopolil Radhakrishnan informierte die Mitglieder am Dienstag per E-Mail.

Das Indian Statistical Institute hat nach einer achtmonatigen Vakanz einen neuen Direktor auf volle Amtszeit ernannt. Amartya Kumar Dutta wird sein Amt am 1. April antreten.

Der Ratsvorsitzende Kopolil Radhakrishnan teilte den Ratsmitgliedern die Ernennung am Dienstag per E-Mail mit. Duttas Vorgängerin, Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay, beendete ihre Amtszeit am 31. Dezember 2025. Im Januar wurde der dienstälteste Professor Ayanaendranath Basu zum amtierenden Direktor ernannt.

Dutta ist Fakultätsmitglied in der Abteilung für Statistik und Mathematik des ISI. Er promovierte 1994 an der Universität von Bombay (TIFR) in Mathematik mit einer Dissertation zum Thema "Problems in Algebra: On Affine Fibrations and Linear Planes over a D.V.R.".

Dutta wurde mit mehreren Preisen ausgezeichnet, darunter 2017 mit dem Professor Satish C. Bhatnagar Award für die beste Publikation zur Geschichte der Mathematik und 2018 mit dem INSA Teachers Award der Indian National Science Academy.
