Suvendu Adhikari als Chief Minister von Westbengalen vereidigt

Suvendu Adhikari wurde am Samstag als erster BJP-Chief-Minister von Westbengalen vereidigt, fünf Tage nachdem die Partei die 15-jährige Herrschaft des Trinamool Congress beendet hatte.

Die Vereidigungszeremonie fand auf dem Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata statt. Premierminister Narendra Modi nahm gemeinsam mit mehreren Unionsministern sowie BJP-Chief-Ministern aus anderen Bundesstaaten teil. Zudem wurden fünf weitere Minister vereidigt, die verschiedene Gemeinschaften repräsentieren, darunter die Rajbanshi-, Matua- und Adivasi-Gruppen. Adhikari, 55, ein ehemaliger Politiker des Trinamool Congress, der 2020 der BJP beitrat, sagte nach seinem Amtsantritt: „Ami mukhyomantri, ami ekhon sokoler.“ Später besuchte er den Geburtsort von Rabindranath Tagore, um den Beginn einer neuen Ära zu markieren. Der Trinamool Congress veröffentlichte eine Erklärung, in der er den neuen Führungskräften gratulierte und Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay zum Oppositionsführer ernannte.
