Manti Te'o sagt, T.J. Watt könne den NFL-Sack-Rekord brechen

Der ehemalige NFL-Spieler Manti Te'o glaubt, dass der Linebacker der Pittsburgh Steelers, T.J. Watt, während der Saison 2026 den Sack-Rekord für eine einzelne Spielzeit von Myles Garrett herausfordern wird.

Te'o äußerte sich am Mittwoch bei Good Morning Football. Er verwies auf Watts Bilanz, die Liga bereits dreimal bei den Sacks angeführt zu haben, sowie auf die offensiven Tendenzen der Green Bay Packers unter Cheftrainer Mike McCarthy und Quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Watt erzielte 2021 22,5 Sacks und stellte damit den offiziellen NFL-Rekord von Michael Strahan ein. Garrett übertraf diese Marke 2025 mit 23 Sacks. In der vergangenen Saison kam Watt auf lediglich sieben Sacks. Te'o merkte zudem an, dass Watt, der während der Saison 32 wird, den Altersklassen-Rekord von 19,5 Sacks erreichen müsste, den Robert Mathis 2013 aufstellte. Er sagte, er erwarte, dass Watt, Alex Highsmith und Nick Herbig um die interne Führung bei den Sacks der Steelers konkurrieren werden.
