Verkehrsteilnehmer vor Straßensperrungen wegen des Comrades Marathon gewarnt

Die Behörden haben Autofahrer vor umfassenden Straßensperrungen auf der Strecke des 99. Comrades Marathon gewarnt, der am Sonntagmorgen beginnt.

Der „Up-Run“ startet um 5 Uhr am Durban City Hall und endet an der Scottsville-Rennbahn in Pietermaritzburg. Der Sprecher der Durban Metro Police, Boyzie Zungu, teilte mit, dass die Straßen ab heute Mitternacht gesperrt werden. Zu den betroffenen Routen gehören Pixley kaSeme, Russell Street, die N3 in westlicher Richtung, King Cetshwayo, der King Cetshwayo Highway, die M13 in Westville, Josiah Gumede in Pinetown, die M13 in Kloof sowie die Old Main Road in Hillcrest.

Zungu rief Autofahrer dazu auf, Ausweichrouten zu nutzen, um Verzögerungen zu vermeiden. Tausende Läufer werden bei der jährlichen Veranstaltung erwartet.

SARS-Kommissar Ngobani Makhubu wird an seinem achten Comrades Marathon teilnehmen und hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, 30.000 Rand für den eThekwini Community Chest zu sammeln. Bisher hat er rund 20.000 Rand zusammengetragen.
