Roblox releases 4D creation toolset in open beta

Roblox has launched an open beta for its new 4D creation platform, enabling users to generate interactive 3D objects that respond to in-game actions. The toolset builds on last year's AI model for dynamic 3D generation and currently offers limited templates for cars and basic shapes. This release comes amid ongoing scrutiny over child safety measures on the platform.

Roblox, a leading online gaming platform, introduced its 4D creation toolset in open beta on February 4, 2026. The feature expands on an open-source AI model released early in the previous year, which generates 3D objects dynamically. Unlike static models, these "4D" objects—created via text prompts—are interactive, allowing them to move and react to player inputs within games.

Currently, the beta is restricted to two templates: driveable cars and solid 3D forms such as boxes or sculptures. The car template consists of five independent parts, including spinning wheels and opening doors, with Roblox emphasizing accurate physics simulation. This could pave the way for user-generated racing experiences. An existing game, Wish Master, already incorporates the tools to let players create vehicles like cars and planes.

Roblox plans to expand the toolset, allowing creators to design custom templates, though no specific timeline has been provided. The company is also working on technology to produce 3D models from reference images.

This development occurs against a backdrop of challenges for Roblox. The platform has faced lawsuits and investigations concerning child safety, prompting the introduction of mandatory facial verification for chat access. Reports indicate implementation issues, and some countries have imposed bans to safeguard children.
