On Tuesday, police stopped a vehicle on Highway 70 north of Avesta, where suspicions of a particularly serious drug offense emerged. A seizure was made, and to safeguard the transport of the seized material, several police patrols were present at the scene, according to the police website.
Two men were arrested in connection with the incident. One resides in Hedemora municipality and the other in Stockholm County. They were later detained in Falu District Court on probable cause for the most severe type of drug offense. The hearings were held behind closed doors.
The lawyer for the man from Hedemora, Anders Karl, comments: 'The only thing I can say is that my client denies these suspicions.'
The preliminary investigation is led by a prosecutor from the National Unit against International and Organized Crime. A particularly serious drug offense involves grave violations of narcotics legislation, such as being a leader in a large drug network or smuggling large quantities of drugs. Penalties can include several years in prison and financial consequences, according to information from the Swedish Parliament.
