Planta desalinizadora en Cordova aumentará el suministro de MCWD ante El Niño

Una planta desalinizadora en el municipio de Cordova ha iniciado operaciones para proporcionar agua adicional al Metropolitan Cebu Water District a medida que El Niño amenaza el suministro.

La planta de 2 mil millones de pesos operada por Island Mactan Cordova Corporation tiene como objetivo suministrar 20 millones de litros de agua diarios al MCWD. Actualmente se encuentra en fase de pruebas mientras se coordinan las interconexiones.

El presidente de Vivant Water, Jess Anthony Garcia, señaló que la instalación está lista y que el contrato de 25 años está en vigor. El CEO de Vivant Corporation, Arlo Sarmiento, destacó que el momento coincide con los pronósticos de un fenómeno de El Niño severo.

Pagasa ha emitido una alerta sobre el desarrollo de este fenómeno entre junio y agosto, el cual podría prolongarse hasta principios de 2027. Las autoridades de la ciudad de Cebú también están evaluando otras fuentes, incluidos pozos profundos.
