Mesfin Tasew, group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, announced in Addis Ababa on Megabit 30, 2018 (Fana Media calendar) that the airline transports over 20 million passengers each year with more than 150 modern aircraft. It currently serves 145 international and 23 domestic destinations.
The airline has overcome various challenges over 80 years to achieve its success, positioning itself as Africa's leading carrier, Tasew stated. A long-term plan through 2040 aims to expand destinations to 243, aircraft to 350, and annual passengers to 60 million.
Cargo capacity will increase from 850,000 tons to 1.2 million tons annually, with revenue targeting 30 billion dollars. This growth supports Ethiopia's economic and social development, according to officials.
Celebrations for the 80th anniversary will continue over the next six weeks in various cities.
