The Kenya Revenue Authority has assured taxpayers that the iTax system is operational following reports of access issues on June 19. Complaints emerged with 10 days remaining before the June 30 deadline for annual returns.
Taxpayers reported that the platform was down or loading slowly on Friday, June 19. One user posted on X that even reprinting a certificate was failing. Another asked why iTax was closed, while Kennedy Kipkorir urged the authority to turn the system on so he could file returns.
KRA responded directly to Kipkorir by requesting his PIN details via direct message. Similar complaints had surfaced on June 17 regarding mobile number verification and one-time passwords. The issues followed scheduled maintenance that took the system offline from 8pm on June 13 to midnight on June 14.
A check on June 20 showed the platform working without major problems. KRA faced comparable difficulties on the June 30, 2025 deadline, which led to a 24-hour extension and later waivers on penalties.
