Abogado inirekomenda na hintayin ng Kamara ang desisyon ng SC sa Duterte

Inirekomenda ng isang abogado na ipagpaliban ng House committee on justice ang narinig nito sa April 14 tungkol sa mga reklamo ng impeachment laban kay Bise Presidente Sara Duterte habang hinihintay ang desisyon ng Supreme Court. Naghain si Duterte ng petisyon para sa temporary restraining order upang pigilan ang hearing. Sinabi ng kanyang tagapagtanggol na ito ang prudent na gagawin.

Nagpahayag si Paolo Panelo, tagapagtanggol ni Duterte sa perjury case laban kay Ramil Madriaga, sa panayam sa SMNI na dapat ipagpaliban ng House justice committee ang hearing. "That’s the prudent thing to do. When there is a litigant who goes to the Supreme Court but there’s no initial TRO, the lower court, in deference to the Supreme Court, postpones the hearings…," aniya. Inaasahan niyang magpapatuloy pa rin ang hearing sa Martes.

Naghain si Duterte ng 58-pahina petisyon sa Supreme Court para sa TRO at preliminary injunction laban sa impeachment proceedings, kabilang ang anumang trial o preliminary investigation. Kasabay nito, nagpahayag si House deputy speaker Paolo Ortega V na nais ng mga Pilipino ng ebidensya at accountability base sa WR Numero survey noong Marso 10-17, 2026, sa 1,455 respondent. "The people want this process taken seriously. They want the facts examined," aniya.

Sinabi ng mga tagasuporta tulad nina Ronald Adamat at Maulana Balangi na layunin ng impeachment ang pagharang sa kandidatura ni Duterte para sa pagkapangulo noong 2028, na inanunsyo niya noong mid-February. Naghain sila ng petition-in-intervention sa SC noong April 8. Samantala, sinabi ni Rep. Joel Chua na sinusunod ng Kamara ang tamang proseso ayon sa Konstitusyon at SC.

Kasama sa subpoena ng justice committee ang mga envelope na may label na “HOPE” mula kay dating DepEd undersecretary Gloria Jumamil Mercado, na sinasabing galing kay Duterte sa pamamagitan ni Sunshine Fajarda.
