Un tribunal clarifie sa décision et autorise Collahuasi à faire avancer partiellement un projet de 3,2 milliards de dollars américains

Le deuxième tribunal environnemental a clarifié jeudi sa décision du 14 mai, qui annulait partiellement la résolution de qualification environnementale pour le projet de la Compañía Minera Doña Inés de Collahuasi.

La clarification établit que l'annulation est limitée à l'usine de dessalement et aux aspects liés à l'environnement humain des communautés autochtones plaignantes. Le reste de la RCA demeure en vigueur, permettant à l'entreprise de reprendre les travaux dans des secteurs tels que Ductos, Cordillera et les parties non contestées de Puerto Collahuasi. Collahuasi a rapporté que la construction et les essais de l'usine de dessalement étaient restés à l'arrêt depuis la décision, avec seulement des actions minimales de maintenance et de sécurité en cours. L'entreprise a exprimé sa volonté de se conformer rapidement à la décision afin d'obtenir l'autorisation complète du projet. Le projet, initialement approuvé en décembre 2021, vise à prolonger la durée de vie utile de la mine de 20 ans avec un investissement proche de 3,2 milliards de dollars américains. Anglo American et Glencore, qui contrôlent l'exploitant minier, ont réaffirmé que l'évaluation environnementale était conforme aux réglementations en vigueur.
