Firmware update bricks some Philips Hue Bridge Pro devices

A recent firmware update has left a small number of Philips Hue Bridge Pro smart hubs unresponsive. Signify, the company behind Philips Hue, confirmed the issue and is offering free replacements.

The problem stems from firmware version 2071353020, released in early June. It affected users who had disabled automatic updates, remained on older versions for extended periods, and then manually installed the update after it had been stored on the device for more than 10 days.

Signify stated that fewer than 100 devices were impacted. Affected units display a solid red LED and stop responding to commands. The company has identified the root cause and is rolling out a fix to prevent further incidents.

Users whose devices are already bricked must contact support for a free replacement, regardless of warranty status. However, they will need to reconfigure all connected lights and settings from scratch, a process described as time-consuming by those with large setups.

Signify has not provided additional engineering details about the failure.
