FIA ratifies 2027 F1 power unit changes

The FIA World Motor Sport Council has ratified Formula 1 power unit rule changes for 2027 along with safety adjustments for the 2026 season.

The council approved a shift to a 58-42 split between combustion power and electric energy starting in 2027. This moves toward a 60-40 split by 2028.

Safety measures for 2026 include a partial return of Boost Mode in wet conditions, limited to maintaining power without increases. The Heat Hazard declaration can now apply separately to sprint and main races.

Pre-season testing in 2027 will extend to four days due to car complexity. FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said the organization will continue working with stakeholders on regulations.
