研究チームを率いる王小龍氏は、6頭のクローンヤギのうち4頭がオス、2頭がメスであると述べた。ドナーとなったヤギは年間2,800キログラム以上の乳を産出し、乳脂肪分およびタンパク質含有量も平均を上回っていた。
中国畜牧業協会羊業分会の杜立新会長は、今回の画期的な成果により、従来の手法では改良牛群の育成に8年から10年かかっていた育種サイクルを大幅に短縮できる可能性があると指摘した。
陝西省は中国の乳用ヤギの40パーセントを飼育しており、国内のヤギミルク製品の80パーセントを加工している。本プロジェクトは、高品質な繁殖用家畜の不足という課題解決を目指している。
