AI agent forms its own company with IRS approval

An artificial intelligence agent named Manfred has become the first to autonomously establish its own corporation by obtaining an Employer Identification Number from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service. The development was announced by ClawBank, the project behind the agent, which also confirmed that Manfred holds an FDIC-insured bank account and a cryptocurrency wallet.

Justice Conder, the developer behind ClawBank, stated that Manfred initiated and completed the legal formation process without human intervention. “To the company's knowledge, this is the first time an AI agent has autonomously initiated and completed the legal formation of its own corporation,” Conder said in an emailed statement. The agent operates under the name Manfred Macx on the social media platform X, using a profile image of the fictional character Max Headroom from the 1985 television series.
