Foreign Minister Francisco Pérez Mackenna concluded his Southeast Asia tour after sealing a deal with the Philippines and starting talks with Bangladesh.
Foreign Minister Francisco Pérez Mackenna ended his tour of Indonesia, Singapore and the Philippines on Saturday. During the trip, Chile and the Philippines finalized the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, making the country the first in Latin America to reach such a pact with the Asian nation.
Pérez Mackenna met with Bangladeshi authorities and agreed to start formal negotiations for a free trade agreement. He also held talks with Indonesia to add an investment chapter to the existing deal from 2019 and discuss lithium and critical minerals.
In Singapore, the minister spoke with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on security cooperation and the Green Economy Partnership Agreement. “We want to strengthen our trade exchange, attract investments, advanced human capital and talents for the development of new technologies,” Pérez Mackenna said at the end of the tour.
