한국 해경이 9일 백령도 인근에서 불법 조업 혐의로 중국 어선 2척을 나포했다고 밝혔다. 작전 중 중국인 선원 1명이 심정지로 사망했다.
해경은 9일 성명을 통해 전날 오후 8시께 중국 어선 2척이 북방한계선을 넘어 남한 수역으로 약 3킬로미터 들어왔다고 밝혔다. 배들은 백령도에서 북서쪽으로 14.8킬로미터 떨어진 지점에서 적발됐다.
작전 과정에서 40대 중국인 선원 1명이 심정지 상태에 빠졌다. 해경은 심폐소생술을 실시하며 병원으로 후송했으나 결국 사망 판정을 받았다. 선원들은 사망한 선원이 많은 양의 술을 마셨다고 진술했다.
당국은 중국 영사관에 선원 사망 사실을 통보했다. 나머지 선원들을 대상으로 불법 조업 경위에 대한 조사를 진행할 계획이다.
