ChargePoint debuts 600 kW Express Solo fast charger

ChargePoint has introduced the Express Solo DC fast charger, capable of delivering up to 600 kW of power. The compact unit is designed for easy installation in tight spaces like convenience store parking lots and supports charging two electric vehicles simultaneously. It sets a new benchmark for standalone chargers in the US.

ChargePoint unveiled its Express Solo charger amid rapid advances in electric vehicle battery technology. The device draws direct DC power, eliminating the need for a costly inverter, and features an Omni Port with both CCS1 and NACS sockets for broad compatibility. ChargePoint CEO Rick Wilmer highlighted its advantages, stating, “The Express DC fast charging architecture delivers differentiation, not just by higher output but by how economically, efficiently, and flexibly that power is delivered. ExpressSolo combines unmatched power density, direct DC inputs for energy storage integration, and a modular architecture that scales with minimal cost and complexity.” The charger can split its 600 kW capacity between two vehicles or dedicate it all to one, with plans to expand to four plugs and eventually support for eight. It also enables bidirectional power flow, allowing an EV to recharge on-site energy storage. Compared to existing high-power chargers, the Express Solo is about 30 percent cheaper to purchase and operate, according to the company. This launch addresses US infrastructure gaps, where most Tesla Superchargers reach 250 kW, Electrify America tops at 350 kW, and IONNA stations at 400 kW per plug.
