Dangote inclina-se por Mombaça para grande projeto de refinaria

O bilionário nigeriano Aliko Dangote sinalizou preferência pela construção de uma grande refinaria de petróleo em Mombaça, no Quênia, em vez do local anteriormente proposto em Tanga, na Tanzânia. Dangote fez as declarações em uma entrevista ao Financial Times publicada no domingo.

Dangote disse que Mombaça oferece um porto maior e mais profundo do que Tanga. Ele observou que os quenianos consomem mais combustível e que o Quênia possui a economia maior.

O projeto tem custo estimado entre 15 e 17 bilhões de dólares americanos, ou aproximadamente 1,9 a 2,2 trilhões de xelins quenianos. Dangote afirmou que a decisão final cabe ao presidente William Ruto.

A proposta de Tanga foi anunciada no mês passado pelo presidente Ruto na Cúpula Africa We Build. A presidente da Tanzânia, Samia Suluhu Hassan, disse que não havia sido consultada sobre o plano.
