Jorma Taccone surprised by Lonely Island reference in new film

Jorma Taccone, director of 'Over Your Dead Body,' now in theaters, revealed he was surprised by an improvised line from Juliette Lewis that nodded to his Lonely Island project 'Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.' The line, delivered by Lewis's character Allegra to Jason Segel's Dan, quotes a lyric from the mockumentary's song 'Rock Roll Skate.' Taccone told SlashFilm he had no such references planned.

In 'Over Your Dead Body,' Jason Segel plays Dan and Samara Weaving plays Lisa, a couple attempting to salvage their marriage during a getaway to a remote cabin. Each secretly plans to murder the other, but their scheme unravels when two escaped prisoners and a guard interrupt the weekend. Juliette Lewis's character Allegra hurls the improvised insult at Dan: “motherfucking, titty-sucking, two-ball bitch. ” Taccone said the line thrilled him, though unexpected. “And by the way, that was Juliette improv-ing,” Taccone told SlashFilm. “And when she did that, I was like, ‘Oh, s—t!’ Because everybody has their own version of that from third grade, or I do, but I was very surprised when she said it.” This marks Taccone's first directorial effort since 2016's 'Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping,' which he co-directed with Akiva Schaffer from a script co-written with Andy Samberg. The three formed The Lonely Island during their time on Saturday Night Live from 2005 to 2010. Taccone added that he initially thought the phrase was a Northern California peculiarity. “I didn’t realize that — I was like, ‘I thought this was just a Northern California thing.’ In normal life as an adult, you don’t say that to someone. That doesn’t come up as something that you say. [laughs] So yes, I was thrilled when she said it.”
