Cientista queniano recebe subsídio de 187 milhões de xelins para pesquisa em IA

O Dr. Samuel Oyola recebeu um subsídio de 187 milhões de xelins da Fundação Gates para desenvolver um sistema de saúde pública impulsionado por IA.

O Dr. Samuel Oyola chefia a ciência genômica no Instituto Internacional de Pesquisa em Pecuária. Ele recebeu os fundos, equivalentes a 1,45 milhão de dólares.

O projeto usará inteligência artificial para prever surtos de doenças e monitorar patógenos resistentes a medicamentos. Os pesquisadores coletarão amostras de águas residuais de 30 locais em Kisumu e Mombaça.

A pesquisa começou durante a pandemia de coronavírus. O Dr. Oyola disse que, durante aquele período, descobriram que é possível detectar alguns patógenos através de águas residuais. Ele colaborará com dois estudantes de doutorado.
