Kenianischer Wissenschaftler erhält 187 Millionen Schilling Zuschuss für KI-Forschung

Dr. Samuel Oyola hat von der Gates Foundation einen Zuschuss in Höhe von 187 Millionen Schilling für die Entwicklung eines KI-gestützten Systems für das öffentliche Gesundheitswesen erhalten.

Dr. Samuel Oyola leitet den Bereich Genomforschung am International Livestock Research Institute. Er erhielt die Fördermittel, die einem Gegenwert von 1,45 Millionen US-Dollar entsprechen.Das Projekt nutzt künstliche Intelligenz, um Krankheitsausbrüche vorherzusagen und arzneimittelresistente Krankheitserreger zu überwachen. Forscher werden an 30 Standorten in Kisumu und Mombasa Abwasserproben sammeln.Die Forschungsarbeit begann während der Coronavirus-Pandemie. Dr. Oyola erklärte, dass sie in diesem Zeitraum entdeckten, dass es möglich ist, einige Krankheitserreger durch Abwasser nachzuweisen. Er wird dabei mit zwei Doktoranden zusammenarbeiten.
