حصل الدكتور صامويل أويولا على منحة قدرها 187 مليون شلن من مؤسسة غيتس لتطوير نظام للصحة العامة يعتمد على الذكاء الاصطناعي.

يرأس الدكتور صامويل أويولا قسم علوم الجينوم في المعهد الدولي لبحوث الثروة الحيوانية، وقد حصل على تمويل يعادل 1.45 مليون دولار أمريكي. سيستخدم المشروع الذكاء الاصطناعي للتنبؤ بتفشي الأمراض ومراقبة مسببات الأمراض المقاومة للأدوية، حيث سيقوم الباحثون بجمع عينات مياه الصرف الصحي من 30 موقعاً في كيسومو ومومباسا. بدأت الأبحاث خلال جائحة فيروس كورونا، وأوضح الدكتور أويولا أنه خلال تلك الفترة اكتشفوا إمكانية الكشف عن بعض مسببات الأمراض من خلال مياه الصرف الصحي. وسيتعاون في هذا البحث مع اثنين من طلاب الدكتوراه.
