Ministro alerta para riscos no fornecimento de energia devido ao El Niño

O Ministro de Energia, Edwin Palma Egea, alertou para um risco iminente ao fornecimento de eletricidade devido ao fenômeno El Niño. Em uma circular enviada em 14 de maio de 2026 à CREG, ele solicitou ajustes regulatórios urgentes.

O documento, identificado como circular 40023, destaca um déficit projetado de energia firme de 1,97 TWh-ano para o período de dezembro de 2025 a novembro de 2026 e 3,9 TWh-ano para o ano seguinte. Isso equivale à capacidade de uma usina de cerca de 450 MW operando continuamente.

O alerta baseia-se em dados do Centro Nacional de Despacho e da Unidade de Planejamento de Mineração e Energia. O texto também cita uma projeção da Administração Nacional Oceânica e Atmosférica dos EUA sobre uma probabilidade de 95% de início do El Niño em junho de 2026.

O ministério também observou que o preço de escassez subiu para US$ 1.006,9/kWh em abril, influenciado pelo conflito no Oriente Médio, que impulsionou o petróleo Brent para perto de 100 dólares o barril. O ministério solicitou incentivos para ampliar a participação no leilão de obrigações de energia firme para o período de 2029-2030.
