PAGASA forecasts typhoon Inday may enter PAR next week

The state weather bureau said a tropical storm outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility may develop into a super typhoon and enter PAR by mid-next week.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration reported that the system, internationally named Bavi, is currently more than 3,400 kilometers away. It is expected to be named Inday upon entering PAR and has a high chance of reaching super typhoon strength before or upon arrival.

Weather specialist Leanne Loreto stated the disturbance might enter the area either Wednesday or Thursday next week. She noted there is still high uncertainty but added that the storm will draw in the southwest monsoon.

Weather specialist Obet Badrina said Inday is expected to bring heavy rains on Wednesday, July 8, as it intensifies the habagat. This weekend, however, generally fair weather with localized rain showers is forecast across the country.
