SIU celebra anulação de contrato de R 85 milhões para muro de fronteira

O Tribunal Especial anulou uma licitação de R 85 milhões concedida à ISF Shula Joint Venture para a construção de um muro ao longo da fronteira entre KwaZulu-Natal e Moçambique. A Unidade Especial de Investigação (SIU) saudou a decisão, citando documentos fraudulentos e um projeto incompleto. A empresa deve devolver todos os lucros obtidos com o contrato.

O Tribunal Especial decidiu anular a licitação de R 85 milhões concedida à ISF Shula Joint Venture para a construção de um muro na fronteira entre KwaZulu-Natal e Moçambique. Este projeto visava conter o aumento da criminalidade, incluindo o contrabando de veículos roubados e furtados para Moçambique.

A investigação da SIU revelou que a joint venture apresentou documentos fraudulentos, não atendeu aos requisitos obrigatórios e abandonou o projeto, apesar de ter recebido o pagamento integral de R 85 milhões. O porta-voz da SIU, Selby Makgotho, destacou irregularidades como um certificado de conformidade fraudulento e uma carta de gastos não conforme emitida pelo Provision Bureau do órgão regulador.

"Com base na revisão, quando fizemos o pedido, constatamos, entre outras coisas, que havia um número considerável de irregularidades... o dinheiro que foi pago não deveria ter sido pago", disse Makgotho. A ordem do tribunal exige ações no prazo de 30 dias, incluindo medidas disciplinares como parte da gestão de consequências.

A empresa foi instruída a devolver todos os lucros obtidos com o contrato.
