Super Typhoon Bavi forecast to enter Philippine area Tuesday

Super Typhoon Bavi is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility either Tuesday evening or early Wednesday morning, according to PAGASA.

The state weather bureau reported that Bavi was last located 2,355 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon and is moving west-northwest at 15 kilometers per hour.

“If the cyclone’s movement and direction do not change, it is expected to enter our PAR tomorrow night or early Wednesday morning,” PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said.

If it enters the area it will be named Inday locally and become the ninth tropical cyclone of the year in the country. The typhoon currently has maximum sustained winds of 215 kph and gusts of up to 265 kph.

Aurelio said the center may pass near the Batanes area before making landfall in Taiwan, with a low chance of landfall in the Philippines. Fair weather is expected over Metro Manila and the rest of the country on Monday, with no gale warnings in effect.
