Hong Kong Observatory says T8 gale or storm signal will remain in force at least until noon on Sunday. Noul is moving into inland Guangdong and weakening but gales still affect many places in the city.

The Hong Kong Observatory said at 9am on Sunday that Noul was centred about 80km north-northeast of the city and was forecast to move northwest or north-northwest at 15km/h across inland Guangdong.

“Noul is moving steadily into inland Guangdong and weakening progressively, but gales are still affecting many places over Hong Kong, with occasional storm-force winds offshore and over high ground,” the forecaster said. The No 8 signal will remain in force at least until noon, after which the Observatory will consider issuing the No 3 signal depending on local wind conditions.

More than 700 flights and over 190 high-speed rail services have been cancelled on Sunday. Under the influence of rainbands associated with Noul, frequent heavy squally showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout the day.

The tropical storm Hagupit may enter the Philippine area of responsibility between Saturday evening and Sunday morning, according to the state weather bureau. Once inside, it will be given the local name Caloy. The system is currently located far east of Mindanao and is not expected to directly affect the country in the next three days.
