Claudia Sheinbaum visits El Apenitas restaurant in Saltillo

President Claudia Sheinbaum chose the El Apenitas restaurant in Saltillo, Coahuila, for a meal during a 2024 tour. This family-run establishment, with 38 years of history, serves traditional Mexican dishes in a homey setting. Sheinbaum shared her experience on social media, noting a 'delicious meal'.

El Apenitas is a family business founded in 1988 by Ana Elisa Rodríguez Garza and Luis Felipe Hernández Gutiérrez. It started as a trailer called 'El Carrito', where the couple prepared dishes to earn income while caring for their three young children. 'We wanted to serve our customers without neglecting our three small children. That's how the first sales point was born', Ana Elisa explained in an interview with Players of Life.

Soon, the popularity of their flavors led to expanding into the ground floor of their home, turning it into a full restaurant. The place maintains a homemade taste in dishes like sopa azteca, puchero, and caldo Tlalpeño, innovating with Mexico City-style pierna tortas. Ana Elisa stresses equal treatment: 'We give the same attention to a worker as to a plant director'. They offer daily comida corrida for workers.

The decor is homey, with yellow walls, photographs, wooden tables, and a display of miniature cars. In 2024, during a tour in Saltillo, President Claudia Sheinbaum visited El Apenitas Puerta del Sol. On social media, she wrote: 'After a delicious meal at El Apenitas Puerta del Sol restaurant in Saltillo, Coahuila, we stopped for a moment in front of the impressive sculpture dedicated to the memory of Venustiano Carranza'.

The menu features options from frijoles charros at 39 pesos to tampiqueña at 518 pesos. Dishes like caldo Tlalpeño cost 155 pesos, and special salads 182 pesos. The average per person, including appetizer, main course, and drink, ranges from 300 to 450 pesos. The restaurant is located at carretera de Monterrey a Saltillo s/n, La Puerta del Sol, Saltillo, Coahuila, and operates from 8:00 to 20:00 daily.
