Police warn politicians hiring goons of security withdrawal

Coast Regional Police Commander Ali Nuno has warned that politicians who hire goons to cause violence could lose their state-provided security. The statement comes as authorities step up efforts against political violence ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Nuno stated that security agencies would withdraw protection from any leaders found sponsoring lawlessness. "If any politician is found hiring goons, we will withdraw your security," he said. He called on politicians to focus on development instead of violence.

The warning follows recent accusations that goons disrupted events at All Saints Cathedral and the Ol Kalou by-election. Similar groups were also reported during Gen Z-led protests in Nairobi.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has ordered a nationwide crackdown on criminal gangs. President William Ruto said at State House on Tuesday that criminality would no longer be tolerated and that agencies must act within the law.
