Road Safety Association Urges Motorists to Ignore NTSA Instant Fines

The Road Safety Association of Kenya has called on motorists to stop paying instant fines issued by the National Transport and Safety Authority, citing a court order from May 29 that suspended the system.

The Road Safety Association of Kenya stated that the instant fines remain illegal under the conservatory court order. The group advised drivers who have already paid to contact its office with payment details for possible refunds.

RSAK described speed cameras as revenue traps, noting their placement on expressways where vehicles can legally reach 110 kilometres per hour before sudden drops to 50 km/h zones. It also criticised poorly marked signage and unproven algorithms used in the system.

Payments should be made through eCitizen rather than directly to NTSA, according to the association. NTSA Director General Nashon Kondiwa has maintained that physical payments at KCB branches are required to protect against scams.
