Rais William Ruto ameitangaza ongezeko la posho za wanariadha na maofisa wa michezo wakati wa sherehe za kurudisha nyumbani Sebastian Sawe, mwenye rekodi ya dunia. Posho za kila siku zimepanda kutoka dola 60 hadi 200 kwa wanariadha na kutoka 80 hadi 300 kwa maofisa. Pia ametangaza mabadiliko katika zawadi za medali na kuanzisha akademia za michezo.

Rais William Ruto alitangaza mabadiliko haya katika State House, Nairobi, wakati wa sherehe za kurudisha nyumbani Sebastian Sawe, ambaye alifanya rekodi ya dunia kwa kukimbia marathon chini ya saa mbili rasmi. "Posho za kila siku za wanariadha zimepunguzwa kutoka $60 hadi $200, na kwa maofisa kutoka $80 hadi $300 wakati wa kuwakilisha nchi nje," alisema Rais Ruto.

Katika sarafu ya Kenya, hii inamaanisha ongezeko kutoka Ksh6,460 hadi Ksh25,840 kwa wanariadha na kutoka Ksh10,336 hadi Ksh38,760 kwa maofisa wa michezo. Pia, zawadi za medali za atletiki zimepanda: dhahabu Ksh3 milioni, fedha Ksh2 milioni, na shaba Ksh1 milioni. Kwa Michezo ya Jumuiya ya Madola, dhahabu itakuwa Ksh2.5 milioni, fedha Ksh1.5 milioni, na shaba Ksh1 milioni.

Ruto alitangaza kuanzishwa kwa Akademia za Michezo za Jimbo ili kutafuta na kukuza talanta kwenye ngazi ya msingi. "Lengo ni kuwapa vijana fursa ya mafunzo bora, vifaa vya kisasa, na njia wazi za kuingia kwenye michezo ya kitaalamu," alisema. Aidha, amesema wataendeleza Sports Bill 2026 ili kuanzisha Mamlaka ya Udhibiti wa Michezo ya Taifa.

Sawe alikuwa mpokeaji wa kwanza wa zawadi hizi, akipokea hundi mbili za Ksh5 milioni na Ksh3 milioni. Rais alimpa pia sahani ya namba ya gari iliyobadilishwa yenye nambari 1:59:30 kuwakomolea rekodi yake ya kihistoria.
