Starfield composer believes players were not ready for the game

Inon Zur, the composer for Starfield, has shared his perspective on the game's reception and his collaboration with Bethesda. In a recent interview, he described director Todd Howard as a visionary leader. Zur predicts that Starfield will eventually be seen as legendary.

Inon Zur, a composer who has worked extensively with Bethesda, recently discussed his involvement in Starfield during an interview with RPGsite.net. Zur has contributed music to several prominent game series, including Dragon Age, Crysis, Prince of Persia, Starcraft, and multiple Fallout titles, as well as Starfield, which launched in 2023.

Zur highlighted the trust Bethesda places in him, noting that while the team provides direction for projects, they allow him to apply his judgment based on their long-standing relationship. He praised Todd Howard, Bethesda's director, as "one, if not the most creative and invigorating human beings in the industry." Zur described Howard as someone who constantly generates new ideas, knows what he wants, and balances creative freedom with guiding the vision. He called Howard a visionary who anticipates trends years ahead.

Regarding Starfield's mixed reception upon release, Zur stated, "I believe people were just not ready for it." He recounted Howard's response to criticism: "Look, if you don't like it, then you don't like it, but this is the new thing that we're doing, and we're sticking to it." Zur emphasized Howard's commitment, adding that such visionaries often face initial misunderstanding but prove correct over time. He expressed confidence that "Starfield will eventually become something that will be legendary. I have no doubt. It's just a matter of time."

The interview also touched on Zur's composing approach for games and thoughts on modern soundtracks. Following the Shattered Space DLC released last year, Bethesda is developing additional Starfield content, though Howard clarified it is not a major overhaul like "Starfield 2.0."
